Get Wash up and running in minutes. This guide walks you through installing both the Shopify app and WordPress plugin, then connecting them together.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- A Shopify store (any plan)
- A WordPress site (self-hosted WordPress.org, version 5.0 or higher)
- Admin access to both platforms
Step 1: Install the Shopify App
- Go to the Wash: Blog Manager listing on the Shopify App Store
- Click Add app
- Review the permissions and click Install app
- You'll be redirected to the Wash dashboard in your Shopify admin
Step 2: Install the WordPress Plugin
- In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New
- Search for "Wash: Blog Manager"
- Click Install Now, then Activate
- You'll see a new Wash menu item in your WordPress sidebar
Alternative: Manual Installation
If you prefer to install manually:
- Download the plugin ZIP from the WordPress Plugin Directory
- In WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin
- Choose the ZIP file and click Install Now
- Activate the plugin
Step 3: Connect WordPress to Shopify
- In your Shopify admin, open the Wash app
- Go to Settings → Connection
- Click Generate API Key
- Copy the API key and your Shopify store URL
- In WordPress, go to Wash → Settings
- Paste the API key and store URL
- Click Connect
You should see a green "Connected" status in both WordPress and Shopify.
Step 4: Configure Blog Mappings
Now you need to tell Wash which WordPress categories should sync to which Shopify blogs:
- In Shopify, go to Wash → Blog Mappings
- Click Add Mapping
- Select a WordPress category
- Select the target Shopify blog
- Click Save
Repeat for each category you want to sync.
Step 5: Initial Sync
Once connected and mapped, you can perform your first sync:
- In WordPress, go to Wash → Sync
- Click Sync All to sync all published posts
- Or select specific posts and click Sync Selected
The sync progress will be displayed in real-time.
Troubleshooting
Connection Failed
- Verify your API key is correct (no extra spaces)
- Check that your WordPress site is accessible from the internet
- Ensure your WordPress site uses HTTPS
Plugin Not Found in Search
- Make sure you're searching in WordPress.org (not WordPress.com)
- Try the manual installation method
Sync Errors
- Check the Wash → Logs page for detailed error messages
- Verify your blog mappings are configured correctly
- Ensure posts have the correct categories assigned
